CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Auburn senior Cydney Clanton carded her third consecutive 1-under 71 Sunday in the final round of the Tar Heel Invitational, finishing the tournament in a tie for 16th with a 3-under-par 213. As a team, No. 12 Auburn finished in a tie for 13th with a 16-over-par 880, carding an 11-over 299 in the final round.
Hosted by North Carolina, the Tar Heel Invitational was a 54-hole tournament played at the par-72, 6,285-yard Finley Golf Course. The three-day tournament featured six teams ranked in the GolfWorld top-10 and 13 ranked in the top-25.
Clanton, a native of Concord, N.C., played a roller-coaster round on Sunday with four birdies and four bogeys in her first 16 holes. Coming down the stretch at even-par, Clanton carded her fifth birdie on her 17th hole to get under par. She posted a 1-under 71 in each of the tournament's three rounds to come in a tie for 16th.
Freshman Marta Sanz posted the second-lowest final round for the Tigers, coming in with a 2-over-par 74. She finished the tournament in a tie for 58th with a 9-over 225.
Junior Haley Wilson and sophomore Carlie Yadloczky each posted 5-over 77s on the day. Wilson finished second on the team overall, coming in a tie for 47th with a 6-over 222, while Yadloczky placed in a tie for 61st with a 10-over 226.
Rounding out the Auburn lineup was junior Patricia Sanz with a 6-over 78 in the final round. She finished third on the team overall, ranking in a tie for 56th with an 8-over 224.
In the team standings, it was Alabama taking the tournament title with a 28-under-par 836. LSU finished second with a 16-under 848, followed by Duke in third with a 13-under 851. Virginia came in fourth with a 2-under 862 while host North Carolina rounded out the top five with a 2-over 866.
Individually, Alabama's Brooke Pancake and LSU's Megan McChrystal finished in a tie for first at 11-under-par 205 after McChrystal shot a 6-under 66 in the final round to come from behind for the tie. On the second playoff hole, McChrystal carded a par to Pancake's bogey to take home medalist honors.
Alabama's Camilla Lennarth finished third with a 10-under 206, followed by Georgia's Marta Silva (207) and Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau (208).
The Tar Heel Invitational was the third of four fall tournaments for the Tigers this season. Auburn will take a few weeks off and conclude the fall season Nov. 5-7 at the Pac 10/SEC Challenge in Palo Alto, Calif.
