AUBURN, Ala. – No. 6 Women’s tennis will begin its run at the 2025 SEC Championship on Friday at 3 p.m. CT against either Vanderbilt or Florida as the tournament host school at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama. Auburn is hosting the championship for the first time since 2008.
“I feel good about our draw, but everyone in the SEC is good,” said Auburn head coach Jordan Szabo. “We’re excited to host, and to earn the double-bye is critical for the girls after toughing out 15 conference matches over the last eight weekends.”
The Tigers will enter the championship as winners of their last five matches and a 22-5 overall record. Auburn recorded an 11-4 record in conference matches this season, which earned the team a 4-seed in the SEC Championship after tiebreakers were enforced. The Tigers moved up two spots from the previous week’s ITA National Team Rankings to No. 6 on Tuesday.
Auburn junior Angella Okutoyi continued her recent impressive play during the final weekend of the regular season by going a perfect 4-0 between singles and doubles to help the Tigers close the season with a couple of home victories over No. 32 Ole Miss and No. 11 LSU. The Auburn junior has now won four consecutive singles matches and reached 25 overall singles wins on the season. She also improved her dual match singles record to an astonishing 20-2.
Auburn will face the winner of Thursday afternoon’s match between 5-seed Vanderbilt and 12-seed Florida in Friday’s quarterfinal match. If the Tigers advance to the semifinal match, it will be played at 3 p.m. CT on Saturday while the final is scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.
Auburn will be pursuing its first SEC Championship title in program history. Last season, Auburn defeated Kentucky in the second round of the event before falling to Tennessee by a 4-3 score in the quarterfinals in Athens, Georgia.
