Coming off a split weekend with solid outings at the Wake Forest Invite in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Tom Jones Memorial in Gainesville, Florida, the Tigers will look to capitalize on the positive momentum and put on a good show in front of a home crowd.

“Across the board, we’re performing at a very high level,” Auburn track & field head coach Leroy Burrell said. “I’m really proud of what this program is doing and how our athletes are competing at meets of that caliber. We’ve got a lot of good things working for us now.”

Between the two meets, the team delivered eight event wins, 13 Auburn Top 10 all-time performances, and 17 collegiate personal bests.

The highlight of the weekend came from senior Makanakaishe Charamba who delivered a world-leading time of 19.99 in the 200m dash at the Tom Jones Memorial. His time is the only sub-20 second performance so far this year in the world. The quartet of sophomore

Kayinsola Ajayi, junior Azeem Fahmi, senior Dario Matau and Charamba also have the NCAA leading time in the men’s 4x100m relay.

Ajayi also competed in the 100m invite where he ran the fourth fastest time in the NCAA this year, tying for the second fastest in program history (9.96).

Two school records were broken, coming from freshman Brenda Jepchirchir and junior Megan Hague. While in Winston-Salem, Jepchirchir took the program record in the 10000m with a time of 32:42.28. She broke the facility record and won the race by over 52 seconds.

The throws continue to deliver as Hague broke her own school record in shot put (17.72m), in Gainesville, finishing first in the event. She is currently No. 6 in the conference.

Senior Kyle Brown delivered a gold worthy performance in the men’s hammer throw for the second time this season (67.40m). He is currently No. 19 in the country.

For the women’s sprints, senior Vimbayi Maisvorewa ran the second fastest 400m time in the country, taking the No. 2 spot on Auburn’s Top 10 List in the event (50.25).

“I’m really excited about where this team is and the direction that we’re headed,” Burrell said. “The staff has done a tremendous job of preparing our athletes and training them to be competitive at a very high level.”

Entering the weekend, the Auburn men are ranked No. 12 in the most recent USTFCCCA poll.

“We’re going to recognize our seniors,” Burrell said. “They have a given a lot to the program and it would be nice for the Auburn Family to come out and support them.”

It’s going to be a weekend full of competition as the men and women face off against No. 15/NR Alabama, No. 4/1 Georgia, Georgia Tech and Harvard.
