BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Chris Rembert has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after leading Auburn to its fifth SEC series win of the season, the league office announced Monday.
Rembert becomes the first freshman this season to earn the honor. It marks the second time the Pensacola, Florida, native has been recognized after also being named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Mar. 3.
Rembert led the league with nine hits and ranked tied for second with 16 total bases in four games last week. He collected multiple hits in three of four games and led the team by going 7-for-13 and reaching base in nine of 15 plate appearances against Mississippi State.
After collecting two hits in the midweek win vs. Georgia Tech, Rembert went 4-for-4 and reached base in all five plate appearances in the series opener against the Bulldogs. He gave Auburn the lead with a two-run double in the fourth inning of the win.
Coming off his career-best effort, he homered in each of the last two games against Mississippi State. Rembert collected a pair of hits in the finale, including a two-run double to help spark the Tigers’ six-run second inning in the series-clinching win. Rembert’s two home runs left the bat at 105 and 106 miles per hour, respectively, and traveled a combined 827 feet.
Rembert and the No. 5 Tigers (30-14, 11-10 SEC) hit the road for four games this week, starting with a midweek contest against Samford (23-20, 9-6 SoCon) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Hoover Met.
