Tigers post strong finish in first round of NCAA Gold Canyon Regional

GOLD CANYON, Ariz. – No. 17 Women’s golf finished the opening round of the NCAA Gold Canyon Regional in a tie for third place with a team score of 1-over (289) on Monday at Superstition Mountain Golf Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona. Auburn sophomore Anna Davis carded a bogey free 69 (-3) in her opening round and is tied for the individual lead.

“A great finish feels great after a really rough start,” said Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen. “The coaches have put this team through some unpleasant pressure situations over the past two weeks and we saw it pay off with a great fight. The greens are new, which means they are very firm and the wind is up so the information gathering can be a real challenge. It will be fun to continue to push for a regional win.”

Davis made the turn at Superstition Mountain Golf Club at even par and picked up three birdies on the back nine to shoot 3-under and break 70 for the 12^th time this season. The Auburn sophomore is tied with Davina Xanh of California State-Fullerton for the individual lead in the event.

Katie Cranson also went under par on Monday, shooting 1-under (71). After a difficult start to her round, Cranston bounced back with a couple more birdies on the front nine and carded her 10^th round under par this season. The Auburn junior is tied for seventh place on the individual leaderboard.

Carys Worby had a difficult start to the round but shot 1-under on the back nine at Superstition Mountain Golf Club to finish with an opening round 74 (+2) and is in a tie for 21^st place.

Auburn received its final counting score from freshman Balma Dávalos, who recorded a 3-over 75. She is in a tie for 31^st individually.

The top five finishing teams from each of the six regional sites across the country will advance to the 2025 NCAA Championship at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. Through round one, Auburn trails the tournament leader, Arizona State, by three strokes and leads the sixth place team, Navy, by ten shots.
