“I knew we had to get Manu after our very first conversation,” Tigers head coach James Armstrong said. “An infectious personality who has been a captain on every team she’s ever been on. She is a pro in everything she does and will bring maturity to our locker room. She’s been waiting for an opportunity like this, so I know she is hungry to get to work.”
An All-South Atlantic Conference selection, Baptista Filipe started all 37 contests in her time at Wingate. The midfielder tacked on 20 points from eight goals and four assists. Three of her goals came as match-winners. Baptista Filipe was also elected team captain for the Bulldogs.
Thanks to her commanding presence in the midfield, Baptista Filipe’s Bulldogs led the SAC in goals-against average and shutouts as well as ranked top 10 nationally amongst Division II programs for shutout percentage.
Prior to Wingate, Baptista Filipe spent two seasons at the junior college level with Monroe University, where she scored 18 goals and added nine assists. She was also named the RSC Newcomer of the Year after a dominant first season as a Mustang.
