BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Sophomore infielder Eric Guevara has been named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week after leading Auburn’s offense in a sweep of South Carolina, the league office announced Monday.

It marks the third straight week an Auburn player has earned a weekly award and is the sixth weekly honor this season. The six weekly awards are the most in a single season in program history.

In a series in which Auburn scored 46 runs on 51 hits, Guevara went 12-for-15 with seven runs, two doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBI in the three-game sweep. He led the league in average (.800), hits, total bases (22) and on-base percentage (.813) while tying with teammates Lucas Steele and Chris Rembert for the league lead in runs and ranking second to Steele in slugging percentage (1.467) and tied with Rembert for second in RBI (nine).

Guevara collected four hits in all three contests, marking a career high in the category, and became the first SEC player since Tanner Allen (Mississippi State) in 2019 to record 12 hits in a SEC series. He is the first Auburn player to record three or more four-plus hit games in a SEC season since associate head coach Gabe Gross did so in 2000.

The Panama native finished the series opener a double shy of the cycle and drove in a career high five runs, hitting a grand slam in the nine-run fifth inning of the 24-run outburst against the Gamecocks. He started game two with a two-run home run in the first inning and finished a triple shy of the cycle while driving in the walk-off run on a squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Guevara also held down the hot corner with a perfect fielding percentage in eight chances and stole two bases.

Guevara and the No. 2 Tigers (36-15, 16-11 SEC) conclude the regular season with a midweek matchup vs. Jacksonville State (31-21, 13-11 C-USA) Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT at Plainsman Park before a weekend series at No. 22 Ole Miss (34-17, 14-13 SEC) Thursday through Saturday.
