AUBURN, Ala. – Behind a walk-off hit from Nelia Peralta and another gem tossed by SJ Geurin, Auburn softball (31-21) blanked NC State (25-28) in run-rule fashion 8-0 to open the series Friday at Jane B. Moore Field.

“When you head into ceremonial weekend like this, you always worry where everyone’s heads and hearts are,” said co-head coach Chris Malveaux. “I was glad to see our players lock in and get after it from the start. SJ (Geurin) set the tone right away by working ahead and attacking the zone. C-Mac (KK McCrary) was able to get things going right away to break the ice, and we kept piling on.”
With her performance, SJ has gone the distance in back-to-back starts with shutout victories. She scattered two hits, two walks and a one hit batter in the complete-game effort while striking out two. She improved to 20-9 in the circle and is just the 12th Auburn pitcher to record 20 or more wins in a season.
Auburn set the tone right out the gate with a two-run blast in the first inning from KK McCrary and continued to pour on runs in five of six frames. The Tigers knocked 10 hits in the run-rule win. McCrary went 3-for-3 with three RBI. Peralta turned in a 3-for-4 effort with the walk-off single.
Following the McCrary home run in the first inning, Auburn added to its lead in the third. Rose Roach led off the frame with a walk before scoring on a ground ball to second. McCrary would make it a 4-0 game with an RBI single through the right side.
Anna Wohlers joined in on the senior weekend fun as she led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to centerfield. The Tigers loaded the bases with one out in the fifth with back-to-back-to-back singles from Peralta, Annalea Adams and McCrary. The base knock extended Adams’ hit streak to 11 consecutive games.
Icess Tresvik drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while an error on a throw down to second base on a stolen base attempt brought in another run to make it a 7-0 contest.
Pinch hitter Thalia Martin set the table for the Tigers’ walk-off win in the sixth as she singled through the left side and moved herself into scoring position with a stolen base. She took third with help of a Roach single before scoring on Peralta’s walk-off hit to left field.
