AUBURN, Ala. - The Tiger men and women's swimming and diving teams faced Indiana, its second opponent this season, on Friday evening in the James E. Martin Aquatics Center. Both the AU the men, 174-126, and women, 165-124, came out on top as seven swimmers made `B' cuts and three divers qualified for zones.

The Auburn men extended its winning streak to 34 dual meets with the victory over Indiana and the women's team put head coach David Marsh one victory away from the 100-win barrier (dual meets). AUs women picked up 10 individual and the 200 medley relay win and the men's group had nine individual and two relay (200 medley and 200 free) victories.

"I know it had to be an emotional day for Dorsey," commented Marsh on AU co-women's head coach meeting her former team this evening. "She was able to see the girls that she coached in previous years made tremendous strides as well as coach the Auburn women to a great performance this evening. Those are the kind of people that we like to have on the Auburn coaching staff - ones that care more about the athletes themselves that how fast they swim. That is what was fun about this meet."

Sophomore Emily Kukors turned in a win and two `B' cuts in the 100 (50.47, 2nd) and 200 (1:47.78, 1st) free's. Teammate Jana Kolukanova touched first in the 100 free with a time of 50.41, also a `B' mark. Sophomore Kara Denby sealed the AU sweep in the freestyle events, winning the 50 in a time of 23.43 (`B' cut).

The Auburn women also swept the backstroke events with `B' cut times as senior Jeri Moss won the 100 back (55.73) and classmate Erin Volcan the 200 back (2:01.77). Also making the `B' cut on the women's side was senior Lauren Duerk in the 200 breast (2:17.29). Duerk picked up the 100 and 200 breast wins to add valuable points to her women's team.

"Indiana swam very well and had some early season impressive times," Marsh said. "I liked how Doug Van Wie and James Wike battled back after getting beat in the 100 back and finished strong in the 200 back and 200 IM. Eric Shanteau is our leader and he led today and sealed up three victories for his AU team. We hope to make some big strides when we swim against the University of Virginia next month."

Senior Eric Shanteau picked up the lone `B' cut for the men's team in the 200 IM (1:49.44), an event he also won, along with two more victories in the 200 breast (2:03.55) and 200 fly (1:48.97). In the 100 breast, Auburn claimed the top three spots, led by sophomore David Maras (57.15). Maras defeated AU teammates Sean Osborne (57.61) and Kurt Cady (58.14). It was also a 1-2-3 sweep from the Auburn men in the 200 back as two newcomers shined in the race. Junior transfer James Wike picked up the win (1:47.51) over senior Doug Van Wie (1:47.72) followed by freshman Nick Bovell. Newcomer Matt Targett picked up the win the 50 free (20.44) and was runner-up in the 100 free.

The AU diving corp also had a successful showing in its first head-to-head competition. Junior Steve Segerlin dominated the meet, winning both the 1- and 3-meter with zone qualifying marks. In the 1-meter, Segerlin scored a 345.82 and in the 3-meter a 397.27. Junior Lynnsey Segraves qualified for zones a runner-up finishes on the 1-meter (258.60). She exhibitioned on 3-meter, scoring 302.01, which would have placed her narrowly in second place. Newcomer Corey Gerlach also qualified for zones on the 3-meter with her exhibition score of 300.29.

"At this point in the season I could not be more happy with how all the divers performed this evening," head diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Steve won both events and he will continue to improve. Lynnsey ended up second on both events - a real solid and steady performance from her. Corey was third on 3-meter and fourth on 1-meter, but there was less than two point separating the first through third place divers. It is very nice to have all three of these divers qualified for zones already. Overall I couldn't be happier than where we are at this point in the season."

The AU swimming and diving teams return to action next weekend in Baton Rouge, La., for its second SEC dual of the season. The Tigers also host the War Eagle Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center on Oct. 21-23.
