ROCKY FACE, Ga. - Senior Ryan Benton finished a shot back in a 3-way tie for second to lead No. 11 Auburn men's golf to a runner-up finish at 25-under in the Carpet Capital Collegiate Sunday at The Farm Golf Club. Benton was 10-under.
No. 21 Virginia finished at 31-under with a 280-833 followed by Auburn (283-839), No. 13 Clemson (283-848), No. 7 LSU (285-852), Georgia Tech (275-856), No. 6 Florida (287-856), Tennessee (288-865), Kennesaw State (289-867), No. 16 Alabama (298-874) and No. 17 South Carolina 297-875).
North Florida was in 11th at 285-885 ahead of Dalton State (294-889), Chattanooga (292-890) and Memphis (308-900).
Benton, who finished a shot behind Georgia Tech's Luke Schniederjans after entering the final round tied, had three birdies on Nos. 3, 9 and 11 and tied with Virginia's Derek Bard and North Florida's Phillip Knowles.
Senior Will Long tied for ninth at 7-under 209 with a final round 3-under 69. The Gastonia, N.C., native recorded five birdies. Sophomore Trace Crowe, competing as an individual, fired a 5-under 67 to finish 6-under 210 in a tie for 11th.
Sophomore Jacob Solomon shot a final round 71 and tied for 19th at 1-under 215 while freshman Jovan Rebula tied for 25th at even par with a final round 72 that included five birdies, two bogeys and a triple. Senior All-SEC Matt Gilchrest tied for 30th at 2-over 218 with a 76.
The Tigers return to action at the Inverness Intercollegiate Sept. 19-20 at Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio.
