ROCKY FACE, Ga. - The No. 11 Auburn men's golf team fired a 12-under 276 and is tied for the lead with No. 21 Virginia after the Carpet Capital Collegiate first round Friday at The Farm Golf Club. Three Tigers are tied for third at 4-under 68.

Seniors Ryan Benton and Will Long along with sophomore Trace Crowe, who is playing as an individual, are tied for third, three shots behind Florida's Sam Horsfield and one behind Virginia's Jimmy Stanger.

Benton and Long each had six birdies as Benton had four on the front nine and Long five on the back. Crowe, who started on No. 10, turned at 4-under with three birdies and an eagle on the par 5, 15th.

No. 16 Alabama (281) is in third followed by No. 17 South Carolina (283), No. 13 Clemson (283), No. 7 LSU (283), Tennessee (284), No. 6 Florida (284), Georgia Tech (286), Kennesaw State (287), North Florida (293), Dalton State (293), Chattanooga (299) and Memphis (303).

Sophomore Jacob Solomon is tied for 11th at 3-under 69 with six birdies, senior All-SEC Matt Gilchrest is tied for 25th with a 71 and freshman Jovan Rebula is tied for 47th with a 74.

Auburn, which is the defending champion of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, continues second round play on Saturday followed by Sunday's final round.
