No. 20 Auburn Men's Golf finishes t-3rd at Hootie at Bulls Bay

AWENDAW, S.C. - No. 20 Auburn Men's Golf finished in a tie for third at the Hootie at Bulls Bay, carding an 11-under 277 on Tuesday at the Bulls Bay Golf Course to finish at 10-under 284-293-277--854. Three Tigers finished in the top-10 as Jacob Solomon and Matt Gilchrest tied for seventh and Ryan Benton t-10th.

South Carolina finished at 20-under 279-286-279--844 to win the title while Ole Miss finished runner-up at 16-under 848. NC State tied Auburn for third at 10-under 287-281-286--854.

Auburn's 277 final round tied Georgia State's opening round for the lowest team score of the tournament. The Tigers tallied 27 birdies in the round led by Solomon's nine.

Solomon, a sophomore from Dublin, Calif., birdied four of the first five holes on Nos. 2-5 in addition to Nos. 9, 10, 14, 15 and 18 as part of a career-low 6-under 66. The Freshman All-SEC selection finished at 5-under 75-70-66--211.

All-SEC senior Matt Gilchrest tied Solomon at 5-under 69-72-70--211. He carded five birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 6, 10 and 13 as part of a 2-under 70 final round. The Byron Nelson Award finalist now has two top-10 finishes for the season and 16 for his career.

Benton, playing as an individual, recorded his third top-10 finish of the season. The Dothan, Ala., native carded a 2-under 70 with four birdies on Nos. 2, 10, 13 and 14 on Tuesday to finish at 3-under 71-72-70--213.

Sophomore Trace Crowe tied for 24th at even-par 69-75-72--216. The Bluffton, S.C., product tallied three birdies in the final round.

Freshman Jovan Rebula carded his seventh round in the 60s for the season with a 3-under 69 in the final round to t-57th at 71-82-69--222. Senior Will Long tallied five birdies as part of an even-par final round and tied for 65th at 76-76-72--224.

Georgia State finished fifth at 5-under 859 followed by Kentucky (286--860), Purdue (286--861), Missouri (288--862), Kansas (285--863), No. 2 Virginia (288--864), College of Charleston (280--867), Houston (296--875), Richmond (302--881), Charleston Southern (292--887) and Wisconsin (301--900).

Ben Wolcott of Ole Miss claimed medalist honors at 12-under 67-68-69--204.

Auburn wraps up the regular season April 10-11 at the Gary Koch Invitational in Gastonia, N.C., before heading to St. Simons Island, Ga., for the SEC Championship April 21-24.
