With gymnastics season being done and summer encouraging relaxing vibes, what does rising senior Kennedy Finister, aka "Kenny"/ "KenSynFit", spend her time doing? I got to catch up with Kenny a few days and asked her exactly that.
As you may have noticed, a nickname for Kennedy is "KenSynFit". That speaks to just a little bit of what she does with her free time, now that the time constraints of being a student and an athlete aren't as strict. KenSynFit is a combination of her first name, middle name and what she does, fitness. If you know Kenny, you know she looks like she could take you down with her pinky. She is strong to say the least. KenSynFit is also the name of her fitness account on Instagram. She started up her page back in January.
"I know that many people have their "New Year's resolution" and this was kind of mine," she said. Her page is filled with both "fitspirations" (fitness inspiration), healthy food options and workout challenges. Her page has gained in popularity over the few months that she has been active on it. There are not many days where a viewer is not entertained by her videos.
M: What got you started on the whole fitness journey?
K: I started my page to kind of keep myself accountable. I know that so many people out there have their "New Year's resolution" and I guess this was kind of mine. I mean I've always been fit being a gymnast, but I've always wanted to push myself more.
M: How many days a week do you work out?
K: For the most part, I do a solid five days. Sundays are usually my days off; they're mainly a cardio and yoga day. However, I do a solid five days of strength stuff.
M: How did KenSynFit kind of start?
K: Honestly, I love working out. It really wasn't that hard to make myself workout outside of gym. We got to a point where we weren't doing a whole lot inside the gym and not being able to compete put me at a disadvantage because I wasn't able to work out as much as I would have liked to workout.
M: Why did you start KenSynFit?
K: Being in the gym and working out let's me clear my head. It's kind of therapeutic in a way. I guess I just wanted to stay in shape and keep myself sane. It is most definitely a distraction from daily life honestly.
M: What keeps you going?
K: It is a distraction and sometimes in a bad way. I just get caught up in looking at other workout challenges from the big fitness pages and seeing if I can do it, how I can do it , and how I can put my own spin to it. I just get overly excited about things like that and it keeps me up at night. I might see something that looks really cool at 2 a.m. and suddenly I find myself in the gym at 2:30. It's kind of a bad distraction in that sense. Sometimes I hate it, but I actually really love it. I really just like to stay in shape, that's the bottom line.
M: Have you had a lot of support for what you do?
K: I really have gotten a lot of support for my page and my fitness. I get a lot of support from my friends and other fitness pages.
M: What do you see KenSynFit being in the future?
K: Right now, I'm trying to gain followers and get my name out there so that when I am done with college this can kind of be something I can do on the side as I apply to get into grad school. I'm still definitely going keep my page active so when a company asks me to rep their brand as an ambassador I can say yes and work my way up to a sponsorship after I'm done at Auburn.
