Daniel Carlson nominated for the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy

AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" On Thursday, Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was nominated for the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy, an award known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service" and presented annually to the FBS player who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

"Doing community service has always been something important to me," Carlson told AuburnTigers.com last month. "Giving back with my influence that I've been able to have while being a football player here at Auburn and having all this success ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" that goes a long way. And people kind of see what you're doing and you can have a good influence on your community and around the world."

The winner of the Wuerrfel Trophy will be announced on Dec. 5 and will then be invited to attend The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show two days later. Carlson is one of 104 players nominated for the award. Semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 2.

Last month, Carlson was one of 22 college football players named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" another honor that shines a spotlight on community service.
