AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in college football Wednesday. The award recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
Carlson, a Lou Groza Award finalist the past two seasons, has made 15 of his 21 field-goal attempts this season, and he's a perfect 41 of 41 on extra points. He also became the SEC's all-time leading scorer earlier this season, and he's currently No. 10 nationally with 440 career points.
Off the field, Carlson has been a standout in the classroom since he arrived at Auburn. He's been named to the SEC honor roll every year, he graduated in three-and-a-half years with a 3.66 GPA in finance, and he's scheduled to receive his MBA in May. Earlier this season, he was named to the AFCA Good Works Team, and last week, he made the cut as a semifinalist for the 2017 Wuerffel Trophy. Both honors recognize and reward community service.
The finalists for the Senior CLASS Award were chosen by a selection committee, but fans will be able to vote and help select the winner. You can vote here now through December. The winner will be announced during the bowl season in early January.
