AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn freshman Matteo DeVincentis received a pair of postseason honors Thursday, earning one of six spots on the SEC all-freshman team, as well as being named to the SEC second team all-conference squad for men's tennis.
DeVincentis, who arrived as Auburn in January from Rome, Italy, posted a 9-10 singles record this spring, playing mostly at the No. 2 singles spot in the lineup. He went 5-6 in SEC singles play, compiling conference wins over No. 26 Giovanni Oradini (Mississippi State), No. 31 Danny Valent (Vanderbilt), Luis Valero (Tennessee), Fabian Fallert (Ole Miss) and Adam Sanjurjo (Arkansas).
He is ranked No. 82 in singles in the latest Oracle/ITA national rankings. DeVincentis was 4-15 in doubles play this spring, paired with three different partners.
"I'm thrilled that Matteo has earned the honors of being named to the SEC all-freshman and all-conference teams," Auburn head coach Bobby Reynolds said. "He arrived on campus mid-year and has exceeded my expectations as a coach.
"Matteo has shown the talent he possesses as a tennis player and he is a leader both on and off the court. He has the potential to be a top collegiate player in the coming years and I'm excited to see what the future holds for him."
