Auburn, Ala.—The Auburn cross country team will travel to Louisville, Ky., this weekend to compete in the Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The men's 8k race will begin at 9:30 a.m. ET, with the women's 5k starting at 10:15 a.m.
The meet will feature 31 men's teams and 28 women's programs, including four men's and three women's teams from the Southeastern Conference. On the women's side, the Tigers are slated to have 11 runners compete, while seven will run for the men.
"By in large we are going to have the majority of our team racing this week," Auburn distance and cross country coach David Barnett said. "We have one or two that have had a couple setbacks here and there, so we may hold them out for another week. At this point on the women's side, we anticipate the entire team back. On the men's side we have a good chance of having our full top five together. It should be a good effort for the team."
Saturday's meet will be the Tigers' second of the season. Auburn opened the 2018 campaign on Sept. 8 when it hosted the Auburn Invitational. Freshman Silas Kipngetich led the men with a fourth place finish in 18:04.73 over the 6k course, while Mercy Kiprop paced the women with a 18th place showing (14:06.75) over 4k.
