MAYNOOTH, Ireland – Auburn junior Jovan Rebula is set to take part in the World Amateur Team Championships this week. Rebula is one of three golfers to represent South Africa in the worldwide event, Sept. 5-8.
The George, South Africa native is joined by teammates Wilco Nienaber and Matt Saulez as the trio competes against 70 countries for the prestigious Eisenhower Trophy in the 72-hole amateur championship split over the Montgomerie and O'Meara Courses at Carton House.
"We have trained hard in preparation for the Eisenhower Trophy and we are ready to fire," Rebula said. "High expectations is part and parcel of this week, but we will take things a shot at a time and enjoy the experience. There is an amazing vibe in the team and we are just eager to get out on the course to see what lies ahead."
Rebula and the rest of the field will play 18 holes of stroke play across four days. In each round, the total of the two lowest scores from each team constitutes the team score for the round. The four-day (72-hole) total is the team's score for the championship.
