Get To Know... Tyler King

Get To Know... Tyler KingGet To Know... Tyler King

With one week until the first pitch of the 2020 season, we're rounding out our Get to Know series!

Last but certainly not least, Tyler King, a junior outfield transfer, steps up to the plate.

Q: When transferring, what kind of things were you looking for in your new school aside from athletics?
King: Aside from athletics, I was looking for a school with a good program for my major and a beautiful campus in an ideal location. I found that Auburn could give me all of that.

Q: What makes softball unique from other sports?
King: I think softball is a very unique game. What makes it unique is how it is a game of mostly failure, yet many have a desire to continue to play it and always have fun while doing so.

Q: If your friends and family could describe you in three words, what would they be?
King: They would describe me as loving, energetic, and outgoing.

Q: What are some of your earliest memories with softball?
King: My earliest memories come from when I was little and playing rec ball with my dad coaching my team.

Q: If you could play any other sport at Auburn, which one would it be?
King: I would want to play volleyball because I think it would be a lot of fun. Growing up, a lot of my friends played it so I was able to watch them play for fun and I enjoyed it.

Q: If you had a million dollars to donate to any charity, which charity would you donate it to?
King: If I could donate a million dollars to any charity it would be to UNICEF USA. They help save children's lives around the world by donating medical supplies, food and water to those in need. I think offering aid to the less fortunate and to people who can not help the situation they're in is important, and it is something I would like to be a part of it if I had the chance.

Q: How would you describe your hometown to someone who has never been there before?
King: I would say my hometown is very fast pace. It's always busy, crowded with people and more than likely there is traffic on the freeways. The downtown part of my city is very popular and filled with lots of things to do. There are many restaurants, boutiques and a movie theater. I live very close to the mountains, but also very close to the beach.

Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
King: My advice would be to cherish every moment you have and be grateful for the opportunities you are given because not everybody gets them and even on your worst days someone is wishing they were in your shoes.

Q: What is your major and what do you plan to do with it?
King: I am majoring in communications, and I want to do something with sports and public relations, not sure of the specific job yet, but definitely something that has to do with PR in sports.

Q: If you could give a message to the Auburn family, what would it be?
King: Thank you Auburn family for all of your support. I have been here for such little time and already feel more than welcomed. I couldn't be more thankful that I get to call this place home. War Eagle!

The Tigers open the season on  Feb. 7 in Clearwater, Fla., at the NFCA Leadoff Classic.
