AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn hosts another Friday men's tennis doubleheader at the Yarbrough Tennis Center, as the Tigers face Georgia State at noon and Samford at 5 p.m.
"Georgia State is a feisty team, a very talented team," Auburn coach Bobby Reynolds said. "They've made the NCAA tournament the last several years, but they're going to come in here and play like we are the target. They've been very successful at doubles, too; that point is going to be very, very important.
"Samford is a team with a lot of new players, so for us, not knowing their players well, we need to go out and play our tennis. If we take care of that, we'll be successful. Our guys are fighting to the end and fighting through adversity – it's just a matter of getting over that hump."
Auburn is 7-3 for the spring season, while Georgia State is 1-5, having played all ranked teams this spring. Nationally ranked players for the GSU Panthers include Vazha Shubladze, ranked No. 104 in singles, and the doubles team of Andrei Duarte and Roberts Grinvalds, ranked No. 41 nationally. Samford is 4-3 this spring.
Auburn's Tyler Stice is the SEC freshman of the week for his singles win over Florida State and his doubles wins against Georgia Tech and The Citadel.
Fans at the Georgia State match will enjoy free pizza. All Auburn home tennis action is at the Yarbrough Tennis Center (771 Yarbrough Farms Blvd., Auburn) and admission is free.
