AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's tennis team will begin the 2022 spring season as a top-25 team, coming in at No. 25 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association preseason poll released Wednesday.
The Tigers, who advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2021, are ranked in the preseason top 25 for the first time since 2019. Auburn is coming off a 2021 season that saw the Tigers post a 14-9 overall record (7-6 SEC).
Seven letter-winners return from the 2021 squad, including a pair of players ranked in the end-of-fall ITA singles rankings. Junior Selin Ovunc is ranked No. 79 headed into the spring; she was a singles All-American in 2021 and picked up a pair of fall wins over ranked opponents. Junior Carolyn Ansari comes in at No. 115 in preseason; she went 8-4 in the fall and recorded a 14-3 mark in dual matches last season. Ovunc and Ansari were both All-SEC Second Team selections in 2021.
Auburn opens the spring season Jan. 14-16 at the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C. The dual match season begins at home Sunday, Jan. 23, with a doubleheader against Furman and UAB at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Tigers have 10 home dates on the schedule, including six SEC matches and a pair of home matches against ACC foes Georgia Tech and Clemson. Admission to all home Auburn tennis matches is free.
