ALBANY, Bahamas – The first tournament of 2023 is in the books for the Auburn women's golf team, which shot a final round 300 (+12) for a 54-hole score of 890 (+26) and a fourth-place finish in a field of 10. Junior Anna Foster led the Tigers after shooting a 1-over 217 across three rounds, which earned her a third-place finish individually.

"We played more solid today and only had to count one double bogey which was a huge improvement from round two," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said after the final round. "Katie [Cranston] and Carys [Worby] played in their first college tournament and both learned a lot that they will take with them to the next tournament."

The Tigers began the day in second place but fell to fourth on Wednesday. Auburn finished ahead of four top 25 teams including South Carolina, which is ranked 5th in the nation by GolfStat.

Foster led the field in par five scoring, as she played the par fives at 6-under par over the three rounds. She also finished second in the field in total birdies, recording 12 over all 54 holes. Wednesday's finish marks Foster's first top five finish of the season and the third top five finish of her career.

"I played really solid all week," Foster said after the round. "I gave myself chances at birdies and never got out of position which is really important on this course."

"I'm very proud of Anna for her fantastic mental strength to keep her cool during some challenging shots," Coach Luellen said about the junior from Dublin, Ireland. "Her perseverance paid off for a top three finish."

Senior Megan Schofill carded a 3-over 75 while freshman Carys Worby finished the first tournament of her collegiate career with a 77 (+5). Both Schofill and Worby recorded a three-round total of 224 (+8) and tied for 15th place individually.

Freshman Katie Cranston, also competing in her first collegiate tournament, recorded a top 25 finish at a tie for 25th after shooting a 5-over 77 for a three-round total of 228 (+12).

After a difficult first two rounds, redshirt freshman Casey Weidenfeld fired a 2-over 74 in her final round which contributed to the team's Wednesday score. Weidenfeld finished the tournament in a tie for 35th at 232 (+16).
Playing as an individual in her hometown, Sophie Anand fired a final round 75 (+3) and her 54-hole score of 227 (+11) puts her in a tie for first among individual participants an 21st overall.

Auburn will have a quick turnaround before their next tournament, which will be the Moon Golf Invitational this Sunday through Tuesday at Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Florida.
