AUBURN, Ala.—Auburn throwers Kyle Moison and Keyshawn Strachan claimed gold and Maura Huwalt silver at the U23 North American, Central American, and Caribbean Championships (NACAC) Championships, July 21-23 in San Jose Costa, Rica.
Moison, who earned outdoor All-America honors this past season, won the men's hammer throw with a best mark of 64.93m/213-0 to outdistance Kade McCall of Kansas State who threw 64.69m/212-3. A native of Lincoln, Rhode Island, posted his winning toss on his third of six attempts.
Bahamian Keyshawn Strachan, who broke the Auburn javelin record as a true freshman during the outdoor season, took home gold with a mark of 78.37m/257-1, surpassing silver medalist Braden Presser of Navy by over three meters.
South Park, Pennsylvania native Maura Huwalt took home silver in the women's javelin throw with a toss of 49.25m/161-7 on her first of six attempts. A two-time All American at Auburn, Huwalt was runner up to Rhema Otabor of Bahamas and University of Nebraska product.
The meet was a successful one for the Auburn program as the Tigers were one of seven collegiate programs to produce at least three medals at the meet and one of just three to produce a pair of gold medals.
