Auburn's women's swimming and diving team earned its first-ever NCAA Championship in 2002 in Austin, Texas. Maggie Bowen was Auburn's top-performer at the meet, sweeping the individual medley events. Heading into day three, Auburn held a comfortable 67-point lead over three-time defending NCAA champion Georgia and boosted the lead on the final night.

All 11 swimmers at the meet earned All-America honors as a team filled with three freshman, six sophomores and two seniors powered Auburn to the top of the medal stand.
