Return to Recap
Head Coach Gus Malzahn
Opening statement...
"Obviously that is a really big win for us. Ole Miss is one of the top teams in the country. To get a win here is a great effort by our players. Our defense gave up some yards, but they came up with two turnovers and had three stops, I believe, at the end. On offense we made some plays in the passing games. At times we were able to run the ball consistently against one of the better defenses in the country. The negative, would be the penalties. This is fairly uncharacteristic of our team. We have to do better in the future. Our guys overcame it. They found a way to win a close game at the end.
On the Treadwell fumble ...
"Yeah, it was a big play. Our guys find ways to win when it is close. Our guys truly believe they are going to win the game if it is close. They made plays defensively and offensively to win the game."
On the game feeling like a playoff ...
"It felt like a big game. We were playing one of the better teams in the country. I am going to tell you right now, Ole Miss is still one of the better teams. People are talking about an elimination game, but bottom line is No. 3 was playing No. 4. Ole Miss is still a great team and they have a great coach."
Head Coach Hugh Freeze
On the game...
"When you see your young men put so much into preparing for opportunities like we had tonight, you see the hurt that they go through. Whoever lost that game tonight was going to feel that way. It was a great college football game against two really good teams. It doesn't take away any of the steam that's in that locker room right now when you felt like you played well enough to win it. It's disappointing. The message to our team was very simple. Our character trait this week was adversity. We're staring it in the face a bit and that's life. Sometimes that's the way it goes. We have to be brothers right now as we stand together and get through a challenging time."
On Laquon Treadwell...
" He definitely has a fracture. It was obvious, even to me. I don't know anything other than that. I can't tell you all of the details of it."
On if the final play was conclusive enough to overturn touchdown...
" I have no idea. That wasn't my complaint. I just think when you get tackled from behind and pulled down by the collar in open field. I'll have to watch it on film. I didn't see the replay to know anything as far as the ball being loose or not."
