Auburn Cross Country Finishes Well At SEC Championship, Placing Fourth And Sixth

GAINESVILLE- The Auburn men and women's cross country teams competed at the SEC Championships Monday morning in Gainesville, Fla., placing sixth and fourth, respectively.

After a week off, the women's team returned with a strong showing in the meet finishing the 6,000-meter race in fourth place with a total of 117 points, anchored by Catherine Wanyoike's third place finish. The junior from Kiambu, Kenya garnered her fourth top five showing of the year with a time of 21:32.78. The Tigers also had two more runners finish in the top 25 as true freshman Angela Homan finished 18th(22:25.72) and Sarah Reese grabbed the 23rd spot (22:43.05). The 10th ranked Arkansas Lady 'Backs continued to run well taking the top spot with 39 points, followed by the University of Kentucky and Tennessee.

On the men's side, the Tigers fought hard in the 8000-meter race and scored 152 points, good for sixth place in Monday's meet. Auburn was led by senior Reade Kidd who placed 22nd with a time of 26:09.35, their only top 25 finish. The Tigers had three runners finish within four spots of each other, Patrick Mouser finished 29th(26:28.70), Joe O'Brien placed 30th (26:31.78) and sophomore David Riddle wrapped up his race at 32nd.

The second ranked Arkansas Razorbacks won the SEC Championship tallying 31 points and having four of their runners finish in the top 10. The Razorbacks were followed by Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, and the University of Georgia.

Other Auburn notable finishers were Erica Braswell, 34th, (23:06.61) and Caitlin Reese who ran 39th with a time of 23:20.71. For the men, Wyman Hamilton placed 39th (27:05.87) and true freshman Andrew Heath from Marietta,Ga. finished in 51st place.
