HOUSTON, Texas - Auburn freshman Angela Homan finished sixth at the 2003 USA Cross Country Championships, placing her on the U.S. Junior National team that will compete at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland.

"I was really surprised to make the team, but I am so excited," Homan said. "Coach (Chris) Fox had mentioned the race to me a few months ago, so I started training and planning my workouts to get ready for the championships and it paid off."

Clara Horowitz of Duke University won the race in 23:34, while Laura Hodgson (University of Washington) finished in 24:10, Amy Hastings (Arizona State) posted a time of 24:19, Rebecca Walter (University of Michigan) recorded 24:21, Julia Lucas (North Carolina State) finished in 24:25, and Homan, 24:39, rounding out the top six competitors and the U.S. Junior National team.

Homan, a native of Delphos, Ohio, was one of Auburn's top cross country runners during the 2002 season. She finished second at the first two meets of the season and continued to help lead the Tigers to regionals where she finished 11th (22:32.99) in the 6,000-meter race.
