Auburn Cross Country Teams to Start Season at Chattanooga Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Auburn's men's and women's cross country teams will begin their 2003 seasons Friday, Sept. 5, at the Chattanooga Opener. Both races will be held on the Moccasin Bend course with the women running a two-mile race at 6 p.m. and the men immediately following with a 5k race at 6:30 p.m.

In 2002, the Auburn women's team placed third in the two-mile race with 56 points. The Tigers finished ahead of Troy State, Columbus State and Middle Tennessee. The men came in second, earning 50 points, behind Samford. Angela Homan finished second with a time of 11:29 and paced the Tiger team. Andrew Heath came in third on the men's side with a time of 15:49 in the 5K.

Auburn's women were picked to finish second in the SEC by league coaches in a preseason poll while the men were tabbed to finish seventh. The Tigers return six letter winners on the women's side and five on the men's with Andrew Heath, Patrick Mouser, Scott Fuqua, Angela Homan, Catherine Wanyoike and twins, Sarah and Caitlin Reese pegged as runners to watch this season.

Results from the meet will be released following the conclusion of the men's race Friday evening.
