Auburn Cross Country Teams Sweep Chattanooga Opener

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Auburn cross country teams took top honors in both the men's and women's team and individual races Friday evening at the UTC Opener at Moccasin Bend in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
      
Auburn sophomore Angela Homan led the Tigers to the team title, finishing first in the two-mile race in 11:22.  The Tigers had five of the top nine finishers to earn 25 points for the team crown.  Senior Catherine Wanyioke placed second in 11:37.  UTC's Shannon Wommack, running unattached, was the overall winner, edging Homan by one second.

Other top finishers for the Tigers were Dawn Morgan (5th, 12:00), McKenzie Fox (8th, 12:16) and Danielle Keplinger (9th, 12:23).
      
The Auburn men's team earned five of the top 12 places for a first-place score of 36 points.  Andrew Heath completed the Tigers' sweep, winning the 5k race in 15:28.  Middle Tennessee's Geoffrey Lagat placed second in
15:31, and former UTC runner Curtis Gadula, running unattached, was third in 15:35.
      
Freshman Scott Fuqua finished sixth with a time of 15:49, followed by David Riddle (8th, 15:53) and Patrick Mouser (9th, 16:01).

The Tigers' travel to New York on September 27 for the Iona Invitational, before hosting their annual Auburn nvitational on October 10 at Indian Pines.
