Auburn Cross Country Captures Two Team and Individual Titles at MSU Invitational

AUBURN - The Auburn's men's and women's cross country teams fared well at the Mississippi State Invitational Saturday morning. The men and women captured the team titles in the 5K and 3K, respectively. Sophomore's Angela Homan and Andrew Heath won their second individual titles of the season.

In the women's 3K race, Auburn did not compete as a team, but had three top finishers. Homan got the Tigers off to a good start, winning the event in 9:55.40. Kylee Swanson (10:28.70) and McKenzie Fox (11:25.00) also competed in this race.

Auburn placed four runners in the top 10 of the women's 4K to take home the team title. Senior Catherine Wanyoike paced the Tigers with a second place finish (13:52.50). Sarah Reese came in a close third (14:12.90), with Dawn Morgan coming in fourth (14:21.00). Caitlin Reese finished ninth in the race with a 15:00.00 performance. Danielle Keplinger (13th, 15:38.20) and Tatum Wilbanks (17th, 15:56.80) also competed in the race.

For the second time this season, Auburn's Heath won the individual title and led his team to the team title. With a time of 14:59.50, he walked away with the first place crown in the 5K event. Auburn placed four others in the top-four. David Riddle ran to a third place finish (15:11.50) and Patrick Mouser placed sixth (15:20.10). Chris George (7th, 15:23.10) and Matt Tillman (9th, 15:41.30) rounded out the top performers for Auburn.

The Tiger men also competed in the 6K, placing five runners in the top ten. Joe O'Brien finished the race in second (19:20.90) with Joey Giatino coming in fourth (19:36.90). Bill Bellomy (6th, 19:57.00), Scott Fuqua (7th, 20:08.10) and Patrick Philbin (8th, 20:22.10) also competed in the second men's race.

The Auburn cross country teams take a week off before returning to action on November 3 at the SEC Championships. The meet will be hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens.
