October 27, 2003
BIRMINGHAM - Auburn sophomore Angela Homan was awarded the SEC Female Athlete of the Week honors for cross country as announced by the conference Monday afternoon.
Homan captured her second individual title of the season on Saturday at the Mississippi State Invitational. Her time of 9:55.40 in the 3K was nearly 18 seconds faster than the next finisher. In the season opener at Chattanooga, Homan defeated 78 other runners to take home the individual victory and lead Auburn to top team honors.
Homan has paced the Tigers at every event this season and has finished in the top 10 in all four races. She had a third place performance on October 1 at the J.P. Doyle Meet of Champions in New York and in the Auburn Invitational on the 10th.
"Angela is very deserving of this award. She has had a great season so far and I am excited that she received this honor," commented head cross country coach Chris Fox.
Homan and her teammates will travel to Athens, Ga., on November 3 to compete in the SEC Championships.
