Auburn Cross Country Teams Set to Compete at SEC Championships

AUBURN - Auburn's men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Athens, Ga., for SEC Championships hosted by the University of Georgia on Monday, Nov. 3. The men's 8K race will kickoff at 9:00 a.m. EST followed by the women's 6K race at 10:00 a.m. EST.
The Tigers are coming off top performances by both the men and women at the Mississippi State Invitational on Oct. 25. Both teams took top honors in the team and individual races. Senior Catherine Wanyoike led the Tigers to the team title in the 4K, finishing the race in 13:52.50.
Sophomore Angela Homan captured her second individual title this season with 9:55.40 performance in the 3K at MSU.
The Auburn men's team earned their third team title when they won the 5K race at Mississippi State. Sophomore Andrew Heath won the race in a time of 14:59.50. The men also competed in the 6K, placing all five runners in the top 10. Junior Joe O'Brien paced the Tigers with a second place finish (19:20.90).
The Tigers are looking to improve from their performance in the 2002 SEC Championships. Last year the men finished sixth and the women fourth. Wanyoike was the top performer on the women's side, finishing the race in third and earning her a spot on the All-SEC team. Former Auburn runner Reade Kidd led the men with a 22nd place finish (26:09.35).
The championships will be held at the University of Georgia Golf Course. Highlights from the championship will be broadcasted on the Nov. 6 SEC-TV Weekly Show. SEC-TV can be seen each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. (EST) on Fox Sports Net South, Fox Sports Net Southwest and Sunshine Network.
