Auburn Softball Team Routs Furman, 9-1

AUBURN - Auburn scored five runs in the first inning en route to a 9-1 victory over Furman in the final game of round robin action in the Tiger Invitational Saturday.

The Tigers added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to end the game via the eight-run rule.

Ashley Griffin continued her assault on opposing pitchers this weekend by going three for four with two RBIs and two runs scored. Her RBI single in the fifth ended the game. She also had a pair of stolen bases.

Holly Currie picked up her third win of the season by pitching all five innings and striking out nine. She had her scoreless inning streak snapped at 19 2/3 when Jessica Matthews doubled home Joni Lockridge with two outs in the fourth.

The Tigers clinched the No. 1 seed for bracket play while Furman was relegated to the fourth seed. The two will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday in the first round of bracket play.
