Auburn Softball Team Splits Two at Getterman Classic

WACO, Texas â€" The Auburn softball team split a pair of games on Saturday afternoon, beating Wichita State, 15-0, and falling to host Baylor, 2-0, in the Getterman Classic in Waco, Texas.
The Tigers moved to 5-1 on the season.
In the first game, freshman Holly Currie was the star by going 3-for-3 with five RBIs and throwing a one-hitter.
Currie, a Pisgah, Ala., native, connected for two singles and a three-run home run at the plate. In the circle, she struck out eight while falling two outs shy of a no-hitter. She walked five in her six innings of work to improve to 2-0 on the year.
However, it was more than just Currie doing damage at the plate as Auburn scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fifth and eight in the sixth.
Fellow freshman Kristina McCain had a stellar game. The Mount Olive, Ala., native, went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Shannon Anderson and Lauren Walton each had a pair of hits and Anderson scored three times.
Junior Sara Dean continued her hot streak, knocking an off-the-wall double in her second at bat. She finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored while also walking two times.
Later in the day, Auburn forced Baylor into extra innings before falling. Kristen Keyes allowed just one hit through seven innings. However, the Bears broke through in the eighth after Harmony Schwethelm was placed on second base due to the international tiebreaker rule.
She was sacrificed to third and scored on Carrie Leerberg's sacrifice fly. With two out and nobody on, Kelly Osburn and Kelly Levesque knocked back-to-back doubles for Baylor's second run.
Keyes, who threw 115 pitches, struck out five in eight innings of work and allowed just three hits. She fell to 2-1 on the year.
Freshman Lisa Ferguson threw eight innings of no-hit ball for the Bears to pick up the win. She struck out six and walked just one. Her struck out Sara Ghezzi, the potential tying run, to end the game.
