Auburn Women's Cross Country Picked To Finish Six, Men Seventh In SEC

Birmingham, Ala. -- The Auburn women’s cross country team was picked to finish sixth in the SEC by the league’s coaches.  With 35 points, the coaches predicted the Tiger men to finish seventh.

On the women’ side, junior Angela Homan will guide her veteran squad who look to improve at the conference level this season.  Homan, the reigning SEC Cross Country Champion and Cross Country Female Athlete of the Year, looks to continue her success from last season and improve upon her 32nd place finish at the NCAA Championships.  Kylee Swanson, transfer Alayne Thompson and Dawn Morgan look to fill out the top-five for the women with one spot remaining to be filled.

The men’s team, which came in seventh a the 2003 SEC Championships, will be led by the junior Andrew Heath, who paced the Tiger team last season.  Returnees Chris George, Patrick Mouser and David Riddle will also made an impact during the upcoming season.

Arkansas men and the Tennessee women led the preseason picks by the SEC Cross Country Coaches, selected to win the men’s and women’s titles in 2004.  Points for the men’s poll were awarded on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis while the women’s poll was awarded on an 11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis.

The 2004 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by the University of Arkansas, will be held on October 30.

Auburn kicks off its 2004 campaign on September 11 with a trip to the Georgia State Invitational.
