Birmingham, Ala. - Auburn cross country runner Angela Homan was awarded the SEC Cross Country Female Athlete of the Week after her personal best performance at the Paul Short Run this past Saturday.

Homan, a native of Delphos, Ohio, continued her success this season as she captured her second consecutive individual title on Saturday.  In the 6K, Homan set a new personal best time of 20:27.39, bettering her old mark by 20 seconds.

Competing in a field of 175-runners, Homan defeated top individuals from the nationally ranked teams of No. 3 Columbia, No. 5 Georgetown, No. 10 Villanova, No. 19 Tennessee and No. 27 Yale.

In the Georgia State Invite two weeks ago, Homan dominated the field as she finished the 5K in 17:20.24, more than a minute ahead of the second place finisher.

“Angela is building off her success from last season,” head cross country coach Chris Fox said.  “This was her first big invitational and she proved to her competitors that she can compete with the best runners in the country.  By winning this meet she has established herself as one of the top five runners in the country.”

This was the Tigers second SEC weekly honor this season.  Junior Andrew Heath was named Male Athlete of the Week after the Georgia State meet.

NEXT UP:  The Tigers will host the Auburn Invitational on October 11 at the Indian Pines Golf Course.
