Birmingham, Ala. - Auburn cross country runners Angela Homan and Chris Walsh garnered top SEC awards as announced by the league Wednesday morning. The awards were determined by a vote of the SEC coaches.

For the second consecutive year, Homan was awarded the SEC Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year. She was the 2003 and 2004 SEC Champion and most recently captured the South Regional title in record time. The Delphos, Ohio, native is on a six meet winning streak in 2004 as she enters her second NCAA Championships on Nov. 22. At the 2003 championships, she earned All-American honors after finishing in a tie for 32nd.

"Angela has won every meet this season," head cross country coach Chris Fox said. "She is obviously well deserving of this SEC honor as she has established herself at the top of the class in the conference. Angela will run in her second championships and we look for her to finish in the top 10."

Walsh, a freshman from Charleston, W.V., was an All-SEC and All-Region performer this season after placing fifth in both competitions. The conference honored him with the SEC Male Freshman of the Year award. He earned himself an automatic spot at the championships to become the first AU male since 1985 to compete at the coveted meet.
