Murfreesboro, Tenn. - Auburn senior Nick Lane defeated both of his opponents on Friday at the Middle Tennessee Fall Invitational to advance to the third round of competition 10 a.m. Saturday where he will meet Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky.
Lane defeated Nicolas Houard of Louisville in his first set 6-4 and 6-1. In the second round he defeated an old foe, Brandon Allan of Middle Tennessee, in a tie-breaker, 1-6, 7-6, and (7-4). Lane lost to Allan in the first round of the 2005 NCAA finals this past May.
"I am proud if Nick Lane for coming back and winning against a player who defeated him back in May," said head AU coach Eric Shore. "He saved two match points in the second set and was able to hang in there and clench it in three sets."
Brent Goedjen and Brett Hunter each lost their matches today. Goedjen fell to Western Kentucky's Chad True 6-3, 6-2. Hunter faced Ryan Preston of Vanderbilt and fell 6-1, 4-6, (6-2). Goedjen and Hunter will continue to the consolation bracket on Saturday. Goedjen will begin at 8:30 a.m. and face Andrew Naidu of Austin Peay. Hunter faces Juan Carlos Rabaza (Tennessee Tech) and is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
Doubles matches were postponed until Saturday due to weather and will begin at 2 p.m. Lane and Hunter are set to face Vanderbilt's Evan Dufaux and Andy Mack.
