Athens, Ga.- Auburn Men's Tennis players, senior Nick Lane, junior Alex Schweizer, sophomore Terence Nugent and freshman Hunter Mills, all advance to the second round of singles play in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
Lane defeated Jorge Padilla of Winthrop 7-5, 6-2. He will take on Ricardo Gonzalez of Georgia at 11:30 this morning.
Schweizer took down his opponent David Demers of Florida Atlantic, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. At 10:30 a.m. he will take on Juan Crosa of East Tennessee State.
Nugent will play Nathan Sachs of Vanderbilt today at 8 a.m., after defeating Tim Walter of College of Charleston 6-1, 6-4.
Mills advances to the third round of play after defeating South Carolina's Kazuya Otani. Mills will play again at 2 p.m.
Tigers who will continue in consolation play are juniors Brett Hunter and Brent Goedjen and sophomore Jay Swamidass. Hunter fell to David North of Georgia Tech, 6-3, 6-0; Goedjen fell to Filip Kricka of South Alabama, 7-5, 6-0; and Swamidass fell 6-1, 6-0 to Christopher Rea of Ole Miss.
Doubles play for the Tigers begins today. Hunter and Lane will take on three-seeded Strahjina Bobusic and Colin Purcell of Georgia. While eight-seeded Nugent and Schweizer take on Crosa and Oscar Posada of ETSU. Goedjen and Mills are set to play four-seeded David Baxedine and Kiril Tcherveniachla of Tennessee.
