Schweizer Falls in Quarterfinals of Southern Intercollegiate Classic

Athens, Ga.- Auburn junior Alex Schweizer fell in the quarterfinals of match play after defeating nationally-ranked Chris Brandi (56th overall) of Florida at the Southern Intercollegiate Classic.

"It was a good day for Alex," said Auburn head coach Eric Shore after Saturday's matches. "He won two tough matches."

Schweizer, ranked 72 nationally, lost 7-5, 6-2, in the quarters to Eric Claesson of Ole Miss.

Auburn freshman Hunter Mills fell in the third round of singles play on Saturday. Mills was defeated by Georgia's Josh Verela, 6-0, 2-6, 6-1.

Other Tigers, Terence Nugent and Nick Lane, fell in the second round of singles play on Saturday. Nathan Sachs of Vanderbilt defeated Nugent 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Lane fell 3-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2 to Ricardo Gonzalas of Georgia.

Brent Goedjen and Jay Swamidass both fell Sunday in consolation play. Goedjen was defeated 6-3, 6-0 and Swamidass 2-0, 1-0.

Schweizer and Nugent will continue fall match play at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships Oct. 3-5 hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Schweizer will compete in both singles and doubles play. Nugent will compete with Schweizer in doubles action. The pair are ranked 29 nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
