Auburn Wins Three Matches on Second Day of Kentucky Fall Invitational

LEXINGTON, Kent. -- The Auburn women's tennis team secured three victories in five matches on Saturday at the Kentucky Fall Invitational. Heading into Sunday, the Tigers are guaranteed of three top-10 finishes in the 12-team event. The Tigers' won two out of three singles draws and split their doubles matches.

Senior Ashley Cowart and freshman Alex Haney had their four-game winning streak in doubles snapped, as they dropped their quarterfinal match to Suzana Maksovic and Annette Aksdal of Denver. The duo came back and won their consolation match against Kellie Schmitt and Karolina Soor of Marshall. They will face Lynzee Keever and Shannon Brown of Marshall in the fifth-place match Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

In singles action, freshman Alex Haney continued her solid play in the consolation bracket. Haney advanced to the ninth-place match Sunday, as she defeated Shannon Brown of Marshall. Haney will face Marsha Ilina of East Tennessee State at 8 a.m.

Senior Ashley Cowart lost her consolation match to Joelle Schwenk of Kentucky and will square off against Meredith Giles of Eastern Kentucky on Sunday at 10 a.m. for seventh place.

Senior Erin Gray picked up her first victory of the tournament, defeating Jemma Evers of Eastern Kentucky. Gray will face Angela Dipastina of Ohio State for 13th at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
