AU Tennis Player Terence Nugent Defeats Nationally Ranked Opponent

Memphis, Tenn. - Auburn's Terence Nugent defeated a top opponent in Friday's matches at the Wilson ITA South East Regional Championship.

Other players Alex Schweizer, Nick Lane and Hunter Mills advance in singles and doubles matches as well.

Nugent defeated Sammy Struyf of Alabama 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and followed that with a victory over Florida's fifth-seeded and Janne Holmia 7-5, 7-6 (5). Holmia is ranked nationally at 55. Nugent will advance to the third round and take on Pierre Mouillon of Mississippi State at 9 a.m., Saturday.

Ninth-seeded Schweizer had a bye in the first round of the singles bracket, but defeated Dias Doskarayev of South Alabama 7-5, 6-4 in the second. He will take on 17-seeded Javier Bes of Alabama at 10:30 a.m., Saturday.

Schweizer and Nugent had a bye in doubles action, but will compete Saturday. They will face Michael Jetter and Kristijan Mitrovski of UAB.

Also in doubles action, Lane and Mills defeated South Alabama's Mark Gellard and Sam Huffman 8-0. They will take on Christopher Rea and Bram ten Berge of Ole Miss at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

The pair also competed in singles action today. Lane defeated Matt Brewer of Memphis 7-6, 6-7, 7-6, but was then defeated by Chris Brandi 6-0, 7-5.

Mills also won his first match, defeating John Thornton of Tennessee 6-4, 6-2, but was defeated by Martin Stuegwardt of Georgia State 6-0, 6-1.
