JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The 25th-ranked Auburn men's golf team fired the lowest round of the day with a 6-under 282 to jump from sixth to a runner-up finish with an 867 in the 15-team Ridges Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7147-yard Ridges Golf and Country Club Sunday.
True freshman Glenn Northcutt recorded the first top-10 finish of his career by tying for eighth carding a final round 1-under 71 to finish at even par 216. Junior Andrew Medley tied for 12th with a 2-under 70 for a 2-over 218 total while senior All-SEC Stuart Moore continued his climb from 90th after a first round 81 to finish tied for 16th with stellar scores of 68 and 70 in his final 36 holes.
Sophomore Jay Moseley carded his first subpar round of the tournament with a final round 71 to finish tied for 35th at 224 while sophomore All-SEC Patton Kizzire struggled with a closing 85 to finish 75th at 233.
"We just need to find a tournament that is 12 rounds because we keep improving from round to round," Auburn head coach Mike Griffin said. "We were playing four-legged today, and the four guys really played well. We were 11-under par at one point before dropping a few strokes. We just couldn't catch South Carolina, but I am happy with the way we fought back to finish second."
South Carolina, which led sixth-place Auburn at the start of the day by 15 strokes, was able to hold on to a eight-shot victory over the runner-up Tigers with a 289 for an 859 total. No. 21 TCU (294-871) and host East Tennessee State (293-871) tied for third followed by North Carolina (302-876), No. 23 Alabama (287-876), Kent State (293-877), Virginia Tech (290-880), No. 7 Tennessee (292-881), Northwestern (295-890) and Florida State (303-890).
No. 11 Wake Forest finished 12th with a 293-891 ahead of Oklahoma (298-895), Virginia (296-898) and LSU (297-899).
East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies claimed medalist honors with an 11-under 68-69-68--205, three shots ahead of South Carolina's Florian Fritsch (71-68-69--208).
Auburn closes out its fall portion of the schedule at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Nov. 4-6 in Dalton, Ga.
