AUBURN, Ala. - In their first televised match of the season, the Auburn volleyball team played strong against No. 24 LSU, but the Bayou Bengals prevailed in four games, 28-30, 26-30, 30-28, 16-30. Auburn drops to 7-5, 1-3 SEC and LSU improves to 13-2, 3-1 SEC on the season.
"The difference in the fourth game for us was that our passing was off," head coach Laura Farina said. "We were able to manage the passing game in the other games, but once the passing was off, our offensive game struggled from there."
The Tigers were led by senior Jennifer Amobi who posted 16 kills on 39 attempts and sophomore Whitney Jacob with 15 kills on 28 attempts (.286). The AU defensive front was headed by senior Bailey Veit with 16 digs and junior Julie Bosler contributed seven blocks. For the second straight game, newcomer Alison Jacobs stepped into the setting role, this afternoon tossing up 45 assists.
Both teams committed multiple service errors, as Auburn had 12 and LSU 14. For the game, Auburn turned in 51 kills on 135 attempts (.156) with 48 digs and 11 team blocks. LSU hit .214 with 58 kills on 140 attempts and had 43 digs. LSU had 10 services aces to Auburn's five.
The Tigers head to the Magnolia state for weekend tilt's with Mississippi State and Ole Miss, respectively. Auburn takes on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m., Oct. 7, and meets the Rebels at 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
