AU's Alex Schweizer Advances To Second Round Of Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship Qualifier

Oct. 4, 2005

Tulsa, Okla.- Junior Alex Schweizer defeated Pade James of Stanford in the opening day of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship qualifier hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Schweizer won the match 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. He now advances to the second round of singles action and will take on Ross Wilson of Ohio State.

"This was a big win for Alex," said AU head coach Eric Shore. "Any time you beat a Stanford player you know you beat a quality player. Hopefully his momentum will carry him through tomorrow."

Originally scheduled to compete in qualifier doubles action, third-seeded Schweizer and Terence Nugent moved into the main draw because of a last minute drop out. The pair will begin competition on Thursday.

Also because of the cancellation, Nugent competed this afternoon in the singles qualifier. Nugent fell to Tommy Garrison of Oklahoma 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-3.
