AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn senior Angela Homan has been tapped by College Sports Television as the Student-Athlete of the Week after winning her third consecutive Southeastern Conference cross country championship on Oct. 29. With the victory, Homan became just the second woman in conference history to win three cross country championships.
Homan claimed the 6K held at Hilton Field at Fort Jackson Military Base in Columbia, S.C., in a personal-best time of 19:40.00. Her time topped her previous best mark of 20:25.83 in the 6K at the 2004 South Regional. This is the second national award Homan has garnered following her performance at the SEC Championships. On Nov. 1, Homan was selected as USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week.
As well as being a three-time SEC Champion, Homan also excels in the classroom. Following the 2004 season, she was selected as a second team Academic All-American and to the Academic All-District IV team.
In the three-year history of the award, Homan is the first Auburn student-athlete to receive the honor. CSTV presents the award, which combines athletic and academic success, on a weekly basis throughout the academic year.
The Tigers resume competition Saturday, Nov. 12 at the NCAA South Regional in Gainesville, Fla.
