BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Auburn senior Angela Homan was selected as the 2005 Southeastern Conference Female Cross Country Athlete of the Year, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the league on Thursday. The honor is the third in a row for Homan, who has also won the SEC Championship the past three seasons.
With the award, Homan becomes only the second cross country athlete in SEC history - male or female - to win the award three times. Former Arkansas runner Amy Yoder also won the award three straight years from 1997-99.
Homan won her third straight SEC title on Oct. 29 with a personal-best time of 19:40.00 in the 6K. In five meets this year, Homan has four top 5s and five top 10s. In addition to her win at the SEC Championships, Homan also won the season-opening Florida State Invitational.
She has 10 career victories and has won seven of the last 11 meets she has participated in. Last Saturday, Homan finished runner-up at the NCAA South Regional and earned a spot in the NCAA Championships.
On Monday, Homan will participate at the NCAA Championships for the third straight year. The women's 6K is slated for 12:15 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Course in Terre Haute, Ind.
