Chappell, Pljusznyin Compete At Seminole Classic

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - With the fall tennis season coming to a close, head coach Tim Gray sent freshmen Whitney Chappell and Irina Pljusznyin to the 2005 Seminole Classic., held Nov. 11-13.

Pljusznyin advanced to the finals of her flight before dropping her championship match with Iciri Rai (South Florida), 6-1, 6-2. She opened the tournament with a three-set victory over Valerie Kendrick of Bethune-Cookman, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6. Pljusznyin then followed up the win with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Sarah Reimer of Houston in the semifinals.

Playing in just her second tournament of the fall, Chappell won her opening match in three sets against Georgia Tech's Kelly Anderson, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4. Chappell dealt Anderson her only loss of the tournament, as Anderson went on to win three straight matches and finished in fifth.

Chappell lost her semifinal match to Yolani Terblanch of Houston in three sets, 6-3, 2-6, 10-6. Following the loss the Terblanch, Chappell faced Kami Miller of Houston in the third-place match. Miller defeated Chappell, 6-0, 6-4.

The Tigers' fall season is complete and they will return to the courts on January 22 to face Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.
