AUBURN, Ala - A pair of Auburn divers finished third during the first day of competition at the Bulldog Invitational. Junior's Lynnsey Segraves and Steve Segerlin were the top AU finishers about the four that competed.
"We did some good things today," head AU diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Even though it is always disappointing when you drop places from prelims to finals, it was a good experience for our team to compete in this format which we will see again at SECs and NCAAs. Lynnsey was just one point away from second place and the position that she held after prelims."
After the morning prelims, Segraves sat in second place with a score of 270.95 on 1-meter, her best of the season. Segraves posted a 269.65 in the evening final's to fall to third place, just one point behind Christin Eberst of Miami of Ohio. Teammate and newcomer Corey Lynn Gerlach finished fifth with a mark of 254.50. After prelims, Gerlach was third with a season-high 269.25.
On the men's side, Steve Segerlin who remained undefeated on all levels heading into this competition finished third on 3-meter with a finals score of 360.35. The mark was his second highest of the season but not enough to overtake strong performances from Georgia's Chris Caldwell, the winner, and Burkley Showe of Tennessee. In the morning prelims, Segerlin scored a 384.85 and stood at second before dropping one place. Newcomer Scott Morgan ended up 12th (232.50).
