Tiger Newcomer Corey Lynn Gerlach Grabs Second on 3-meter at Bulldog Invite

Dec. 3, 2005

Athens, Ga. - Tiger newcomer Corey Lynn Gerlach turned in another strong performance on 3-meter as she finished second in the final's on day two of the Bulldog Invitational at the Gabrielsen Natatorium.

"Overall we had a pretty solid meet," head AU diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "We were a little off our top marks of the season but we were in a new environment than what they are used to competing this season where the swimming competition was going on simulateously. This was a good experience for them to be able to compete with swimming going on because they will see the same format at SECs and NCAAs. They will need to learn to focus more on their dives and tune out any outside noise going on while they are competing."

Gerlach led the competition after the morning prelims with a score of 287.25. She improved upon that in the finals posting a 304.05 to fall to second behind South Carolina's Allison Brennan. Teammate Lynnsey Segraves was second leading into the night finals (278.20) but missed two of her dives and dropped to fifth with a final mark of 279.10; still an improved mark from earlier in the day.

"Lynnsey improved from her preliminary score," Shaffer noted. "She missed a few dives in the final tonight but it was a good experience for her."

For the second night in a row junior Steve Segerlin finished third, tonight on 1-meter, with a score of 340.35. Segerlin entered the finals with a mark of 323.65 and was third. Teammate Scott Morgan moved up one place to finish 10th with a finals score of 262.50.

"Steve also improved from his preliminary round quite a bit," Shaffer commented. "We used a new dive during the finals tonight so we could see how it was scored. He performed it solidly and we will get to see him again tomorrow on platform."

The final day of the Bulldog Invite will resume tomorrow at the Gabrielsen Natatorium. Segraves and Segerlin will both compete on platform for the first time this season. For live results please visit the Georgia athletic web site at www.georgiadogs.com
